A word is generated form a first component of a modulation signal and is compared with a reference value to produce a first or a second result. A pair of coefficients is selected to distort the first and second components of the modulation signal when a first result is produced. The phase of a carrier signal is modulated with the second component if a second result is produced. The amplitude of the carrier signal is modulated based on the distorted first component or the first component when the first or second result, respectively, is produced. An amplifier (108) amplifies the carrier signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a transmission device; and (2) the use of the transmission device.
