Class 52(3) A book-case, cabinet &c. 3 has :a rear compartment for housing a table top 5 which can be slid up until stopped by an abutment on the cabinet and then swung down about the abutment to form an overhanging table. As shown in Fig. 3, the sides of the rear compartment are formed with vertical grooves 9, the upper ends of which form the abutment, and pins 8 on the rear edge of the table ride in the grooves. The table is maintained vertical during its upward sliding by projections 10 in the compartment sliding in grooves 11 in the table edges. The table may be supported also by struts or, as shown, by one or two hinged legs 13. In modifications the top ends of the grooves 9 are of inverted U-shape to give a stable end position to pins 8, or the pins 8 may be connected to the rear of the table by pivoted links. As shown in Fig. 6, the abutment comprises a semicircular projection 17 on the rear of the cabinet top 6 co-operating with a projection 16 on the rear of the table, these parts being held in engagement during pivoting by rear lugs 18 on the table engaging stops 19 on the rear wall 4 of the compartment. |
