<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flare correction circuit for an image display apparatus and flare correction method for the image display apparatus, with which the band and gain of flare correction can be controlled automatically according to ambient light. <P>SOLUTION: An ambient light detection unit 51 measures ambient lightness using a built-in lightness measuring sensor and outputs information on the measured lightness to a flare correction amount determination unit 52. In the flare correction amount determining unit 52, the controlled variable of the flare correction amount, corresponding to the ambient environmental lightness, is calculated and outputted to a flare correction circuit 20 by a determination circuit using operation, based on the formula stored, in advance or a look-up table, set in advance.
