The piezoelectric actuator (2) has a plastics housing (5) with a cast infill (6) and with two contact pins (7) in electrical connection with the actuator module. There is a cylindrical spring (8) surrounding the plastics housing and a cap plate (3) and base plate (4) form locked with the actuator module. At least one of the components is made of a material with a heat transfer coefficient of greater than point three W/(k.m). An independent claim is also included for a fuel injector of a common rail injection system, using the piezoelectric actuator.
