A method for universal sealing of a sewer inspection cover onto a lipped sealing surface uses a setting compound applied as a paste to the sealing surface and set under the pressure of the fitted cover. A two component setting compound can be used, i.e. including a hardener, and the contact profile under the cover is treated with a barrier layer before applying to the sealing position. Vent holes (4) around the edge of the cover can also be sealed by the same compound.
