Novel bleach catalysts, a method for bleaching substrates using these cataly sts and detergent compositions containing the catalysts are reported. The bleaches are quaternary imine salts. Substrates such as fabrics may be bleached in an aqueous solution containi ng these salts and a peroxygen compound.
