The free-standing refrigerating appliance comprises a housing with a hinge-interconnected body (20) and a door (2) which define a heat-insulated interior and one of which supports an encompassing seal (9). The extent of the seal defines a first plane (E) in which the seal touches the body with the door closed. The side walls of the body have outer cheeks (23) which protrude beyond the first plane in the direction of the door. The cheeks of the side walls have forward edges which define a second plane, and the seal with the door closed lies completely on the body side of this second plane.
