<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately obtain toner consumption in an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A calculation error in the toner consumption arises because the set values (E1 and E2) of exposure power E for obtaining target density Dlow are different from calculative optimum values (Eopt1 and Eopt2).
