PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image processing performance by speeding up access to a depth value Z buffer circuit. SOLUTION: This image processor 10 is provided with: a pixel generating device 12 for generating the color information and depth value of each pixel from vertex data configuring a polygon; a Z buffer circuit 18 for storing the depth value and the stencil value of each pixel; and a Z buffer controller 14 for controlling a Z buffer circuit. The Z buffer controller is provided with a format 1 for dividing a plotting area into one or more rectangular areas, and for storing the depth value and the stencil value of each pixel for each rectangular area, one or more sets of fragments constituted of the stencil value of any one representative pixel, the depth value of the representative pixel and the inclination of an xy directional depth value to be decided by a polygon for deciding the representative pixel and a format 2 for storing an index value for designating the fragment for generating the depth value and the stencil value based on the distance with the representative pixel and the depth value included in the fragment and the inclination of the depth value for each pixel.
