The oxygen flux monitor is a new monitoring device. Three preferably non-invasively assessed inputs are fed into the oxygen flux monitor: cardiac output, oxygen content or partial pressure or concentration, and haemoglobin concentration. The connected expert system calculates the relative contributions of each of the inputs for maintaining the oxygen flux, and indicates the relative contribution in case of deviation from the physiological ranges. Present techniques allow for the assessment of the individual inputs.
