FIELD: manufacture of fibrous blanks for quartz light conduits used in communication lines. ^ SUBSTANCE: method consists in coaxially placing the pre-blank containing core inside tube made from quartz glass, filling the gap between them with quartz grist and fusion. Grist taken in the amount equal to 20-70% of mass of blank is preliminarily subjected to gas phase cleaning with NH4Cl vapor at temperature above 337°C. Fusion is effected at pressure inside tube below atmospheric. ^ EFFECT: possibility of producing blanks having mass more than 1 kg by means of horizontal thermal and mechanical machines. ^ 2 cl
