PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tray transfer mechanism which is produceable at a lower cost, carries out smooth tray transfer, and contributes to height reduction of a facility, and to provide an article storage device using the tray transfer mechanism. SOLUTION: According to the tray transfer mechanism, a tray 2 is supported on longitudinal traveling rails 41 or transverse traveling rails 42 by longitudinal four wheels or transverse four wheels. Then a pair of transfer rollers 51 which are press-fitted to a pair of movable guide rails of the tray 2 are selectively switched in a longitudinal direction or a transverse direction together with the movable rails 25 of the tray 2, and they are set in the same direction as that of a first guide rail or a second guide rail of the tray 2, to thereby drive the tray 2 for transfer in the longitudinal direction or in the transverse direction.
