A process for producing roller bearing components comprises preparing a powder metallurgical open pored sintered stainless steel member, with pores 0.1-20mu m in size. The surface is treated mechanically and/or chemically, and the member is then treated in an inert gas atmosphere that contains carbon, at 100-320o>C for 5-14 days.
