The invention concerns a hood (1) comprising a thin, light and frangible outer layer (5), which is plastically deformed or breaks rapidly in case of skull impact thereby enabling part of the impact energy to be dispersed. Beneath said outer layer, is provided a thicker layer (4) of light damping material having a low modulus of elasticity and a high plateau of plasticity designed for optimal deceleration of the head. The hood is preferably divided into two zones (7, 8) specifically optimized for a child and an adult. The hood can also comprise an inner layer (6) breakable upon contact with the engine unit. The invention is of particular interest to manufacturers of road motor vehicles and of accessories for said vehicles. |
