A wireless communications device (10) has an audio transducer to facilitate communications via a wireless communications network. The audio transducer is disposed on an extendable member (44) that is positionable in a retracted position and an extended position. When the extendable member (44) is in the retracted position, the audio transducer is positioned internal to the housing (42) of the wireless communications device (10). When the extendable member (44) is in the extended position, the audio transducer is positioned external to the housing (42) of the wireless communications device (10). An extension mechanism (50) disposed within the housing (42) of the wireless communications device (10) extends the extendable member (44) and moves the audio transducer from the retracted position within the housing (42) to the extended position external to the housing (42) responsive to the activation of an actuator (26).
