PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire for a heavy load excellent in chipping resistance for a long time from an initial stage to a final stage of its use. SOLUTION: A rubber composition comprises (a) 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component which contains≥70 wt.% of natural rubber and/or polyisoprene rubber, (b) 30-70 pts.wt. of carbon black and/or silica having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N<SB>2</SB>SA) of≥60 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and (c) 0.1-10 pts.wt. of a cyclic polysulfide expressed by formula (I) (wherein, R is a substituted or unsubstituted 2-20C alkylene group or an 8-20C alkylene group containing an oxyalkylene group or an aromatic ring; x is 2-6 on average; and n is an integer of 1-20). For the heavy load tire, the rubber composition is used for a tire base tread which accounts for 20-80 vol.% of the total volume of the tread. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
