摘要 The proposed method for selecting optimal material for reducing friction between a tool and a workpiece consists in loading several samples of the workpiece material by an identical force that is produced by a tapered indenter at different angle positions of the indenter and in different test modes - at the availability and unavailability of friction-reducing at the contact surface of the indenter or the sample, measuring, in each test mode, the variation of friction force, and determining the parameters that are required for selecting optimal friction-reducing material. As the samples of the workpiece material, planar samples with a central hole are used. The diameter of the central hole is less than the largest diameter of the indenter. The indenter is arranged in line with the axis of the central hole of each sample. As the friction-reducing material, cutting emulsion is used. The parameters and characteristics that are used for selecting the optimal friction-reducing material include the friction coefficient, sliding distance, and characteristic of the friction coefficient as a function of the sliding distance.
