PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of checking the location of a shield machine 3 in real time without boring a search hole from above the ground, or a location checking hole from the vicinity of an arrival location by horizontal boring. SOLUTION: According to the method, a plurality of waveguide rods 5 are inserted from a predetermined excavation arrival target location into the ground 1 toward an area around an excavation estimated location by the shield machine 3 so as to pass respective quadrants in an x-y coordinate system that is in a plane orthogonal to an excavation schedule base line O, with the excavation schedule base line O set as an origin. Then vibrations transmitted from the shield machine 3 to the waveguide rods 5 are detected by acceleration sensors 6 attached to the waveguide rods 5, respectively, and the location of the shield machine 3 is determined based on respective detection values and comparison of the detection values with each other.
