<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical stapling and severing instrument suited for an endoscopic procedures in particular. <P>SOLUTION: This surgical stapling and severing instrument 10 is provided with a handle 20 producing different closing motion and firing motion to actuate an end effector 12. In particular, the handle produces a plurality of firing strokes for reducing the required amount of force for firing (namely, stapling and severing) the end effector 12. The optimization is enabled by varying the rotating center and the circumferential length of a cam disk and the depth of a cam lobe interacting with a firing trigger 34 via a driving wedge. In particular, a mechanical advantage obtained in a specific firing stroke is to reduce the increase of the force for firing at the end effector and to uniformize the force felt at the firing trigger 34. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
