[PROBLEMS] Disclosed is an electrochemical capacitor having excellent storage performance which is excellent in corrosion resistance and input/output characteristics. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Specifically disclosed is an electrochemical capacitor having a membrane-electrode-collector structure which comprises a pair of electrode layers containing a metal oxide connected with a metal foil collector and a proton-conductive polymer binder, and a polymer electrolyte membrane interposed between the electrode layers. One or both of the proton-conductive polymer binder and the polymer electrolyte membrane contain a polyarylene having a sulfonic acid group comprising a structural unit represented by the general formula (A) below and another structural unit represented by the general formula (B) below.
