The invention relates to a process for manufacturing thin strips of stainless ferritic steel and to a strip obtained thereby. According to the invention, the process provides for the solidification of a strip directly from liquid metal, between two internally- cooled counter-rotating rolls having close horizontal axes, the strip being then cooled or left to cool in order to avoid its remaining in the range of austenite conversion into ferrite and carbides, the strip being afterwards coiled at a temperature ranging from 600 C and the temperature of the martensitic conversion Ms, the coiled strip being left to cool at a maximum rate of 300 C/h down to a temperature ranging from 200 C and the ambient temperature. The strip cooled this way undergoes finally a box annealing operation. The invention also relates to a strip of stainless ferritic steel containing 0.12% carbon, at the most, 1% manganese, at the most, 1% silicon, at the most, 0.040% phosphorus, at the most, 0.030% sulphur, at the most and between 16 and 18% chromium, which can be obtained by the claimed process.
|
