Liquid fuel (L) is conveyed to the evaporator (10) through a pipe (38). The end (40) of the pipe fits into a sleeve (24) which passes through a hole (20) in a solid wall (18) holding a porous refractory evaporator layer (12). Fuel flows through a hole (34) in the side of the sleeve and soaks into the porous material. A flange (28) on the closed end of the sleeve covers the region of the porous material immediately surrounding the aperture. Vaporized fuel leaves the front surface surrounding the flange. A flat cover (46) has a flange fitting on the outside of the flange on the sleeve to define a flat circular volume (48) to act as a combustion oscillation damper. there is a pulsation damper (44) inside the closed end of the sleeve.
