PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which can efficiently shake down the accumulated dust of a bag filter without damaging the bag filter, even if the amount of an exhaust gas and the dust concentration of the exhaust gas rapidly change. SOLUTION: A pulse piping 32 connected to a compressed air tank 34 is installed in the upper part of a dust collector 10. The pulse piping 32 is equipped with nozzles 42, 42, etc. which jet compressed air from above filter cloths 22, 22, etc. arranged thereon, and a pressure regulator 36 for regulating the compressed air, and a diaphragm valve 38. A dust concentration meter 46 measures dust concentration in the exhaust gas at an inlet flue 14. A differential pressure gauge 48 measures the differential pressure between an inlet flue side casing 12a and an outlet flue side casing 12b. A control part 40 controls a compression regulating mechanism 36 and the diaphragm valve 38 based on respective measuring values sent from the dust concentration meter 46 and the differential pressure gauge 48.
