<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die for vacuum casting, which die does not cause the seizure due to the intrusion of a part of a molten metal into pores provided in an air-permeable die in which a part of a cavity is configured by a porous material, and further to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The die for vacuum casting is the air-permeable die 23 in which at least a part of a cavity 29 is configured with a porous material. The air-permeable die 23 has pores having a diameter of 4-12 μm. The air-permeable die is formed so as to have a thickness of at most 12 mm at the positions where the exhaust is required. The method for manufacturing the die for vacuum casting, which die has the air-permeable die composed of a porous material at least at a part of the cavity, forms the blank of the air-permeable die having a pore size of 4-12 μm by using a metallic powder material having a grain size of 250-1,000 mesh in the Hot Isostatic Press (HIP) forming method, and then sinters the blank. After that, the surface of the cavity of the blank of the air-permeable die is formed by electric discharge machining. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
