<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular obstacle detection and avoidance device capable of correctly detecting an obstacle and performing the avoidance operation. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicular obstacle detection and avoidance device comprises a distance sensor 4 which is mounted on a vehicle 1 to detect the distance to an obstacle, a speed detection means to detect the moving speed of the vehicle, a direction calculation means to calculate the direction in which the obstacle is present based on the secular change of the distance to the obstacle obtained from the distance sensor and the speed obtained from the speed detection means, and a control means to instruct and output the avoidance operation based on the distance to the obstacle and the calculated direction of the obstacle. While the obstacle is detected by the distance sensor, the direction in which the obstacle is present is calculated based on the secular change of the distance and the speed obtained from the speed detection means, and the avoidance operation is performed according to the direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
