<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device in which the gap between the end face of an optical head such as an SIL or the like and an optical recording medium is stably held in an approximately constant manner even though a recessed and projected section caused by a defect or the like exists on the optical recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup device is provided with at least a light source 3, an optical section 41 which illuminates a plurality of light beams from the light source 3 to an optical recording medium 9, a head 42 which is arranged opposite to the optical recording medium 9 and converges the plurality of light beams from the light source 3 to the recording surface of the optical recording medium 9 as near field light beams, a driving section 43 which adjusts the distance between the head 42 and the recording surface of the optical recording medium 9, an optical detecting section 44 which detects the distance between the head 42 and the recording surface of the optical recording medium 9 by a plurality of returned light quantities from the optical recording medium 9 and a gap control section 45 which controls the driving section 43 to hold the distance of the head with respect to the recording surface constant based on the detected distance by the optical detecting section 44. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
