PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate the summary of a hierarchically structured document in a form where one can read and understand at each node. SOLUTION: When an input document is inputted, a sentence included in each node of the input document is divided into words, and the appearance frequencies in a node of the words are found, and the appearance frequencies between the nodes of the words are also found. The importance of the words is found based on the appearance frequencies in the nodes and the appearance frequencies between the nodes, and a summary in each node is generated based on the importance of the words, and then the summary is outputted.
