Gas spring comprising a first hollow casing having two opposite parallel bases (18,28), in which a first base (18) is provided with a hole (27), a piston (2) adapted to slide in a fluid-tight manner within said hollow casing, a rod (4) attached to the piston and passing through said hole, a first sealed chamber (6) provided inside said hollow casing as delimited by said piston and other inner walls of said hollow casing on the opposite side of said rod, a second constant-volume sealed chamber (7), a first conduit (12) connecting the interior of said first chamber with the interior of said second chamber, first valve means (13) adapted to open/close said first conduit, a third constant-volume sealed chamber (8), a third conduit (16) connecting said third chamber with said first conduit, and second valve means (17) provided in said third conduit. Said second constant-volume sealed chamber and said third constant-volume sealed chamber are kept at a low pressure and a high pressure, respectively, by a common positive displacement compressor (50). <IMAGE>
