An elongated body (5) is used as a blank for the production of horseshoes, which blank is produced by parting- off of a plane initial plate composed of at least two part-plates of differently hard materials and which has on one hand a length that is many times larger than the bow lengths of the individual, finished horseshoes, and on the other hand a rectangular cross- sectional shape, the width of the blank body corresponding to the thickness of the initial plate, while at the same time the thickness is smaller than the width.
