PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rotation speed control device of an engine capable of converging engine rotation speed to target rotation speed while avoiding hunting. SOLUTION: The rotation speed control device of an engine is equipped with a throttle valve 22 for adjusting a suction air quantity, a sensor means for detecting operating state including actual rotation speed Ne and a control means 11 for controlling an opening of the throttle valve 22 in accordance with the actual rotation speed Ne. The control means 11 includes a computing means for setting a dead band while computing the target rotation speed and a drive means for controlling the opening of the throttle valve 22 so that the actual rotation speed Ne is converged to the target rotation speed. The computing means changes and sets the width of the dead band in accordance with a deviation between the actual rotation speed Ne and the target rotation speed. The drive means maintains the opening of the throttle valve 22 so as to hold the suction air quantity at a previous value when the actual rotation speed is within the dead band.
