The connection means between the remote-controlled devices (2a-2e) and user interface (3, 4) is adapted to be able to provide a connection between the interface and at least one external communication device (2f, 2g). The conversion module for the signals between the interface and household devices is adapted to convert the signals between the interface and external communication device to allow an individual to communicate via this interface and device. The external communication device can be a cordless phone, mobile phone, fax machine or computer. The conversion module can convert audio, video and data signals from an interface-suitable format and a communication device-suitable format and vice versa.
