The invention relates to a system for processing value documents, in particular, for quality control of newly -produced banknotes. The invention is characterised in providing means for subsequent processing of those banknotes, monitored by a monitoring device, which do not meet the stack criteria, in particular, the stack criteria relating to the number and/or serial numbers of the stacked banknotes. Said means can introduce, for example, replacement documents, such as separating cards or replacement notes into the stack of the banknotes for subsequent processing. Said means can either be part of the monitoring device itself, in order to permit an automatic subsequent processing of erroneous banknote stacks, or, for example, also integrated in a separate device in which the banknotes for subsequent processing, stacked and monitored by the monitoring device, are subsequently processed. The subsequent processing is thus preferably automatically supported or carried out fully automatically.
