PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assign storage regions by selecting the place of the storage destination of data, according to purpose of use, such as backup or disaster recovery. SOLUTION: A region assignment method for securing a region to be formed on a storage device, in which data are stored comprises registering information related with a plurality of regions to be managed and a position where the storage device is set, as a storage configuration information table 105 in advance; registering information, related to the purpose of use and position of the region as a position management table 107; acquiring the information of the position from the position information table 107, in response to the assignment request of regions accompanied with the purpose of use; selecting an unassigned region from the storage configuration information table 105, by referring to the information of the position; and transmitting information related with the selected region to a client who is the issue origin of the assignment request.
