The printing method involves moving a panel in the advance direction, printing a reference print image on the panel with a first application roller and measuring the length of the whole reference image or a part of it. The method also involves controlling the application pressure of at least a further application roller and/or generating a relative movement between the panel and the further roller and controlling the pressure of an engraving roller. The pressure is controlled based on the measured length for generating a print image at a desired position. Independent claims also cover apparatus for carrying out the method.
