<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a KVM switch and method for compatible multiple chaining. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of local computers 152 and remote computers share a plurality of local operating devices 154, but connection protocols are different between the computers and operating devices. First electrical signals from the operating devices are received, and each first electrical signal is adapted for the connection protocol of the source operating device. Each first electrical signal is then converted into a standard packet. The standard packets 300 are routed between the operating devices and the computers.
