PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head unit in which a large subcarriage equipped with a plurality of liquid drop ejecting heads on it can be efficiently carried and attached, and its attaching method. SOLUTION: In the head unit, two guide rails 33 (one guide rail is not illustrated) as a guide are arranged on the two sides along the Y axis near the bottom surface of a carriage attaching part 30. Four holes 34a, 34b, 34c and 34d for screw fixing (34c and 34d are not illustrated) are arraned on a face almost perpendicular to the guide rails 33. Regulating pins 35a and 35b (35b is not illustrated) are arranged respectively on the two guide rails at one end of the guide rail 33 to which the subcarriage is to be inserted, and also, a connector board fixing side 36 is fixed to the carriage attaching part 30, on a face opposite to the face of the carriage attaching part 30 to which the subcarriage 50 is to be inserted.
