PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a POS register for displaying the current operating circumstances to draw attention without making it difficult to view the display contents on a picture where characters or the likes are displayed. SOLUTION: Instructions to "depress a subtotal key after registration by a checker" are displayed on a liquid crystal touch panel on a translucent popup picture on which already existing display contents can be visualized (step Sb1). The end of merchandise registration is detected, and instructions to "depress the subtotal key after the end of registration by the checker" are displayed on a translucent popup picture (steps Sb2 to Sb3). The subtotal key is depressed, and the display of the translucent popup picture is made to disappear (steps Sb4 to Sb 5), and merchandise registration and fare adjustment processing are progressed (steps Sb6 to Sb 12). When this process is shifted to a recalculation mode to recalculate change corresponding to the change of a deposit from a customer, a translucent popup picture to show the shift to the "recalculation mode" is displayed, and recalculation processing is executed (steps Sb13 to Sb15).
