A device for driving securing members into walls comprises a barrel to receive the member, a hammer movable along the bore of the barrel, a sleeve connected with the barrel and carrying a handgrip, a cartridge chamber, a striker and cocking slide movable in the sleeve, and means to drive the striker against the cartridge whereby the hammer drives the member into the wall and also prevents the escape of waste gases. As shown, a hammer 16 with a reduced end 17 fitting a bore in a plug 18, is movable in a chamber formed in a tube 3 of a barrel 2 and has a piston head 14 formed with a recess 23 for a cartridge. Projections 5 form, with lugs 13 on a sleeve 12, a bayonet connecting device. A cocking slide 35 urged towards the barrel by a spring 49 and operating in a firing plug 30 is engaged, on pulling against the spring 49 by a ring 48, by a safety ring 36 urged into a groove 39 by a spring 35 and released by a push button 40. A disc 43 may also engage a groove 51 in the slide 35 to form a second safety catch. The device is fired by releasing the safety catch 43, depressing the push button 40 and at the same time pushing a firing socket 31 forward. The slide 35 moves into contact with a valve 29 and a striker 26 explodes the cartridge causing the hammer to strike the member and drive it into the wall. A rubber sleeve 57 may cushion the piston at the end of its travel. A spring urged ball 22 in the plug 18 retains the hammer in its retracted position and two spring-loaded balls retain the bolt or other securing member in position in the barrel. The bolt may have an internal thread 59, Fig. 5, on a larger diameter part which may be cylindrical or part cylindrical and part tapered. The bolt may have a hole 67 in the large diameter part 66, Fig. 8. The small diameter part 63, Fig. 7, may have a washer 62 to maintain the bolt centrally in the barrel of the device. Straps for securing light pipes may be held in the front of the barrel and be carried by the bolt to be fixed in position. |
