PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver with a function that does not display an uncontracted pay-per-view picture at the time of channel up/down but displays the next channel picture. SOLUTION: When the up key/down key of a channel are depressed when the present time is within a normal broadcasting time zone except for midnight, the channel selection operation of a tuner 2 is started to select the channel. When a sound determining means 133 determines that no sound signal is present in a broadcast signal of the selected channel and a channel determining means 135 determines that the channel has been previously stored in a memory 6, a pay-per-view channel determining means 137 determines that the channel is a channel of uncontracted pay-per-view broadcast and stores the channel in the memory 6. When a channel is selected by channel up/down from the next time, a skipping means 138 skips the channel of the uncontracted pay-per-view broadcast stored in the memory 6 to perform selection of the channel.
