The present invention provides a pretensioner device for seat belts. The present invention further provides a pretensioner device with actuating bodies forming a chain on actuation to provide a drive for the retraction of seat belt and said actuating bodies getting detached as individual units on completion of the pretensioning of the seat belt. The present invention also provides a method of pretensioning by using chain-like actuating bodies.
