PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for technique to obtain balance without arranging an acceleration sensor or a position sensor in a device for adjusting the axial balance of a rotary drum to be rotated after storing contents and a method therefor, e.g., the device suitable for adjusting the balance of the drum in a centrifugal dryer for laundry and a method therefor. SOLUTION: Liquid is supplied to a plurality of storage chambers 2 (2a, 2b, 2c) arranged at prescribed intervals in a circumferential direction and the unbalance of the drum is corrected by a difference in the mass of liquid supplied to each chamber. The maximum load torque during one rotation in the rotary drum is detected. The liquid of a prescribed mass W1 is supplied to the prescribed storage chamber 2a, so as to detect the phase differenceψof torque change during one rotation of the rotary drum before/after the supply. Mass W2 and W3 to be supplied to the plurality of remaining storage chambers 2b, 2c are calculated, based on the mass of the supplied liquid, the detected maximum load torque, and a phase difference.
