New perfluorocarboxylates (I) comprise linear or branched perfluoroalkanoates, perfluoro-aromatic carboxylates and perfluorobenzoates. New perfluorocarboxylates are of general structure (I): RfCOO (I); where R = a perfluorinated linear or branched alkyl, aryl or phenyl group. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) new conductive salts (II) for an electrolyte solution, especially for electrochemical double layer capacitors, comprising an ionic compound with a organic cation and perfluorocarboxylate (I); (2) electrolyte solution comprising (II) and a solvent; (3) methods of preparing (II).
