The method involves automatically controlling adjustment using measured gap and precision values. The screws for attachment of the door to the vehicle are tightened during the fitting process so that the door's weight is supported but adjustment of the hinge leg on the vehicle body side is possible. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatic alignment and adjustment of doors with respect to a motor vehicle body.
