PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable channel presetting corresponding to a receiving area in a short time only by setting a language. SOLUTION: A channel selecting device 1 is composed of a tuner 2, a video processor 3, a microcomputer 5 having a built-in ROM 4, an external memory 6 such as an E2PROM, and a display means 7. A plurality of languages and a data table storing channel searching systems corresponding to the languages are stored in the ROM 4. If a user sets a language, the ROM 4 executes a channel search by either of a channel plan system and an entire region scanning system, according to the channel searching system correlated with the language. If the channel search is executed by the channel plan system, channel data stored in the ROM 4 are read, and a channel is searched in conformity with the determined channel plan.
