PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grip section of a key material and the key material capable of discriminating the direction of insertion. SOLUTION: The key material 1 is equipped with a key body 2 and the grip section 3 mounted to the key body 2 and gripped by a hand in the case it is inserted. A front side recess section 8 coinciding with the shape of the contact face of a thumb gripping the outside 6d thereof is formed on the front chip 6 of the grip section 3. A rear side recess section 18 coinciding with the shape of the contact face of the forefinger gripping the outside 7c thereof is formed on the back chip 7 of the grip section 3.
