The present invention relates to a method for estimating precipitation characteristics, in particular the precipitating rate for a solid precipitation, which comprises a step of acquiring a radar image, including at least one vertical plane of a precipitation area and a vertical profile processing to provide digital signals representative of the reflectivity in the vertical direction z.
