PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress influence due to unevenness of longitudinally aligning time and unevenness of sheet supply interval, ensure many hours required in aligning sheets without sacrificing productivity, and improve aligning performance of sheets. SOLUTION: When a paper sheet supplied onto a compile tray 105 is a paper sheet other than the last paper sheet forming a bundle of paper sheets, laterally aligning operation for the preceding paper sheet by a lateral direction aligning part 140 is controlled based on detection timing of the paper sheet next to the paper sheet detected by a compile exit sensor 103. When a paper sheet supplied onto the compile tray 105 is the last paper sheet forming a bundle of paper sheets, laterally aligning operation for the last paper sheet by the lateral direction aligning part 140 is controlled based on detection timing of the last paper sheet detected by the compile exit sensor 103.
