A plate assembly for an electric storage battery comprises a core 14 (see Fig. 6) in the form of a thin sheet of moulded non-porous plastic material having a grid pattern of a plurality of openings 12 therein, a metallic coating coextensive with the surface of the core on both faces of the core, the core having a groove 22 in which a terminal lug is firmly secured in contact with the metallic coating. The core may be of polystyrene or polypropylene. The surface of the core may be roughened to help retain the metallic coating, which may be lead sprayed on while molten, and the terminal lug may be secured in the groove 22 by riveting. A suitable active material is applied to the assembled plate as a paste, filling the openings 12 and to a thickness determined by raised edges 18. |
