PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To utilize gradation reproduction characteristics of a display device to the maximum. SOLUTION: A video data processing apparatus is provided which has a detecting means (41) for detecting the maximum value and the minimum value of the pixel value of video data, a first converting means (41) for applying data conversion to the pixel value of the video data between the maximum and minimum values into the transmittable maximum gradation, transmitting means (42, 43) for transmitting the converted video data and transmitting information capable of reproducing the maximum and minimum values, a receiving means (51) for receiving the video data and information transmitted by the transmitting means, and a second converting means (52, 53) for performing gradation conversion into display data to be displayed on the display device on the basis of the video data and information which are received.
