PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical sheet having excellent heat resistance, moisture resistance, thermal dimensional stability and weather resistance and hardly causing distortion or color change into yellow even when the sheet is subjected to heat or UV irradiation by a lamp, and to provide a backlight unit which reduces luminance variation or decrease in luminance by using the optical sheet. SOLUTION: The optical sheet 1 comprises a transparent base layer 2 and an optical layer 3 layered on the top face side of the base layer 2, and the optical layer 3 contains a light diffusing agent 5 in a binder 4. The binder 4 comprises a polymer composition containing a copolymer (A) and minute inorganic filler (B). The copolymer (A) contains at least one kind of a repeating unit derived from (meth)acrylate ester having a cycloalkyl group, a repeating unit derived from iso-butyl (meth)acrylate or a repeating unit derived from a tert-butyl (meth)acrylate.
